| Description | The guide bearings on the 150,000 horsepower Newport News turbines are lubricated with oil circulated by lower-pressure pumps driven by alternating current motors. Each turbine is provided with a standby pump, which is driven by direct current from a battery plant, and starts automatically if the a-c pump fails. The oil is passed through the cooler below the pumps, as it is circulated.
