| Description | Hundreds of workmen pass this safety signboard on their way to and from the construction areas. Numerous innovative safety efforts emerged at the Grand Coulee Dam to forestall and prevent accidents. In 1939 alone 619 workers suffered injuries from falls, lifting, explosives, electricity, tools/machinery, vehicles, and numerous other workers. In total there had been an estimated 2,452 accidents on the project to date and 67 fatalities.(Banks, Columbia Basin History Project 1939 vol. VII, pg. 86) |
