| Description | Excavation is started at the pumping plant foundation. The material to be removed is located in general between el. 1170 and el. 1280. The concrete in that portion of the dam shown on the right has reached an average elevation of 1000. Excavation continued into 1938 primarily in the upper areas of the Grand Coulee construction site that would support the upper portion of this monolithic structure and in supporting structures like the pumping plant that would eventually deliver irrigation waters to the Columbia River Watershed. |
