Washington State University Libraries

Field Value
Title Steel Closure Gate
Description A 70-ton all-steel closure gate is completed and lowered to a transfer barge. It will be used to close river diversion channels while they are built up. On the dam, fabrication of another gate is in progress. Engineers designed these huge closure gates to block sections of the diversion trenches for concrete pours that built the Grand Coulee Dam one channel at a time.
