Description | 1 map: 29 x 69 cm. Scale: 4.25 inches = 1 mile. Soundings are expressed in feet and show the depths at low water. Proposed extension of existing dam shown by dashed line. Proposed dredging to 20 ft at low water shown by hachures. In order to make the city of Vancouver, Washington, more accessible by water up the Columbia, a proposal was adopted in 1892 to dam half the river south of Hayden Island, thus forcing water north of the island and creating a deeper channel past Vancouver.... |

Format | Original maps were scanned in color at 600 dpi on a Microtek 9600XL scanner and saved as TIFF files. The TIFF files were converted into the MrSID format at a compression ratio of 12 to 1 using LizardTech's Geospatial Encoder 1.5 software.
