Description | 1 watercolor view: col., 20 x 31 cm. This portrays Astoria, Oregon, during the year 1845. Astoria was first settled in 1811, when members of the Pacific Fur Company established a Fort and a trading post there. In 1813, after the War of 1812, the Pacific Fur Company sold Fort Astoria to the Northwest Fur Company, who renamed it Fort George. However, over time the center of the British fur industry moved further inland, to Vancouver, Washington, and Fort George fell into relative disuse.... |

Format | Original maps were scanned in color at 600 dpi on a Microtek 9600XL scanner and saved as TIFF files. The TIFF files were converted into the MrSID format at a compression ratio of 12 to 1 using LizardTech's Geospatial Encoder 1.5 software. These MrSid files were then uploaded into the CONTENTdm database at the Washington State University Libraries. image/jpeg |
