Description 1 map; 20 x 25 cm. The author of this map (and the book it comes in) was a trader in the employ of John Jacob Astor's Pacific Fur Company, and took part in Astor's first expedition to the northwest to establish the profitability of the fur trade there. The expedition departed by sea from New York City in late 1810, and arrived at the mouth of the Columbia River in March of 1811, where it built Fort Astoria. Format Original maps were scanned in color at 600 dpi on a Microtek 9600XL scanner and saved as TIFF files. The TIFF files were converted into the MrSID format at a compression ratio of 12 to 1 using LizardTech's Geospatial Encoder 1.5 software. These MrSid files were then uploaded into the CONTENTdm database at the Washington State University Libraries. image/jpeg
