Howard. General Oliver Howard was the soldier in charge of the forces sent to try to peacefully remove the Nez Perce from their lands in the Grand Ronde Valley to the assigned reservation in Idaho. Format Original maps were scanned in color at 600 dpi on a Microtek 9600XL scanner and saved as TIFF files. The TIFF files were converted into the MrSID format at a compression ratio of 12 to 1 using LizardTech's Geospatial Encoder 1.4 software. These MrSid files were then uploaded into the CONTENTdm database at the Washington State University Libraries. image/jpeg
