Description 1 map; 14 x 23 cm. The first railroad to stretch across the United States, the Union Pacific Railroad, was completed in just four years--from 1865 to 1869. This map was in fact printed one year before the completion of the road. Linking up with the Central Pacific, the transcontinental railroad ran from Omaha, Nebraska to Sacramento, California, some 1,700 miles of track. Format Original maps were scanned in color at 600 dpi on a Microtek 9600XL scanner and saved as TIFF files. The TIFF files were converted into the MrSID format at a compression ratio of 12 to 1 using LizardTech's Geospatial Encoder 1.4 software. These MrSid files were then uploaded into the CONTENTdm database at the Washington State University Libraries. image/jpeg
