Description 1 map: col., 42 x 34 cm. Plat map from the Whitman County city of Steptoe. Scale 400'=1". The area now known as the town of Steptoe was called Steptoe Station at first. This is because the town began as a siding, or flag stop, for the railroad. Records show that as early as 1875 the area had a post office. By 1890 it had a school district known by the area's main benchland--Tennessee Flat. However, with the arrival of the track running from Spokane to Colfax, the name was changed and in 1907...

Format Original maps were scanned in color at 600 dpi on a Microtek 9600XL scanner and saved as TIFF files. The TIFF files were converted into the MrSID format at a compression ratio of 12 to 1 using LizardTech's Geospatial Encoder 1.4 software.
