Description | 1 map: col., 42 x 34 cm. Plat map from the Whitman County city of Steptoe. Scale 400'=1". The area now known as the town of Steptoe was called Steptoe Station at first. This is because the town began as a siding, or flag stop, for the railroad. Records show that as early as 1875 the area had a post office. By 1890 it had a school district known by the area's main benchland--Tennessee Flat. However, with the arrival of the track running from Spokane to Colfax, the name was changed and in 1907... |

Format | Original maps were scanned in color at 600 dpi on a Microtek 9600XL scanner and saved as TIFF files. The TIFF files were converted into the MrSID format at a compression ratio of 12 to 1 using LizardTech's Geospatial Encoder 1.4 software.
