Description 1 map: col., 40 x 36 cm. Plat map from the Whitman County city of Garfield Washington. Scale 400'=1". Located eighteen miles northeast of Colfax, the town of Garfield was platted by landowner Samuel J. Tant in 1881. The plat was filed and the town incorporated in 1887, and was named by Tant after President James A. Garfield. Even before the plat was filed settlers began to build up the town. Format Original maps were scanned in color at 600 dpi on a Microtek 9600XL scanner and saved as TIFF files. The TIFF files were converted into the MrSID format at a compression ratio of 12 to 1 using LizardTech's Geospatial Encoder 1.4 software. These MrSid files were then uploaded into the CONTENTdm database at the Washington State University Libraries. image/jpeg
