| Description | 1 map: col., 28 x 22 cm. When S. Augustus Mitchell retired around 1860, he left the business in charge of his competent son, S. Augustus Jr. His son continued with his father's high standards, and while most American publishers were switching to the cheaper process of wax engraving, Mitchell retained the use of hand engravings transferred onto lithographic stone. | Format | Original maps were scanned in color at 600 dpi on a Microtek 9600XL scanner and saved as TIFF files. The TIFF files were converted into the MrSID format at a compression ratio of 12 to 1 using LizardTech's Geospatial Encoder 1.4 software. These MrSid files were then uploaded into the CONTENTdm database at the Washington State University Libraries. image/jpeg |
