| Description | 1 map: col., 34 x 43 cm. Granted permission to publish S. Augustus Mitchell's maps in 1850, the publishing house of Thomas Cowperthwait & Co. published (as one of its first printings) a map of the newly formed State of California and the Oregon and Utah Territories. In this map of 1853, the Oregon Territory has been recolored (some pink but mostly yellow) and marked to show the emergence of the newly formed Territory of Washington. | Format | Original maps were scanned in color at 600 dpi on a Microtek 9600XL scanner and saved as TIFF files. The TIFF files were converted into the MrSID format at a compression ratio of 12 to 1 using LizardTech's Geospatial Encoder 1.4 software. These MrSid files were then uploaded into the CONTENTdm database at the Washington State University Libraries. image/jpeg |
