Field Value
Title Barges
Description Barges of various sizes and purposes have had an important part in the construction of Grand Coulee Dam. The contractors built most of theirs of wood, and used them chiefly as platforms for derricks and cranes. Later, the Bureau constructed several with steel frames and sheathed with wood planking, using them in river channel excavation below the dam. They were 40' x 80' with a capacity of 350 tons. The 56-ton steel frame was made from CBI trestle salvage.
