Title Penstock Liners
Description These completed sections of the penstock liners are awaiting transportation to the dam. The 18-foot diameter tubes, each 292 feet long, were made up of 15 sections of cylinders up to 23 feet long, and weighing up to 39 tons. The 18 liners had a total weight of 14,206,000 pounds. The three 72-inch diameter station service penstocks, each 322 feet long, weighed 430,334 pounds. The twelve 14-foot pumping plant inlets were each 60 feet long, and totaled 1,012,000 pounds. For all this work,... Western Pipe and Steel Co. held the contract for fabricating and installing the eighteen 18 foot turbine penstocks, and the twelve 14 foot intake tubes for the pumping plant at $1,461,894...The first station service penstock was installed on May 22, 1939, and the entire installation for the station service units was completed by June 24th, 1939. Installation of the inlet pipes for the pumping plant was completed on March 12, 1940. (Koester Vol. III 254)"
