| Description | All artificial spawning of Salmon is conducted at Leavenworth Station, and Koester estimates that they handle on average 40 million eggs each year. One of the most interesting aspects of construction of the fish hatchery was the 2,500 foot rock tunnel, that taps a mountain lake 150 feet below its surface to ensure a supply of cold water to the Leavenworth hatchery. This water is then mixed with Wenatchee River water to temper the hot water to make it more hospitable for salmon. |
