Title | C.B.I. Trestle Bridge |
Description | The Bethlehem Steel Co. laid the first closure beam of the C.B.I. trestle on Sept. 09, 1938, the juncture being over mid-river at block 50. The longest beams in this trestle were 97 feet long, 100 inches high, and weighed 38 tons. Upon dismantling the portion of the C.B.I. trestle remaining exposed at the completion of the dam, about 1000 tons of the structural steel went into the Todd-California Shipbuilding ways, some went into the Oregon Shipbuilding plant at Portland, Oregon, and also... Cranes laying the last steel beams on the construction trestle that provided structural support and integrated the cellular concrete pours into the monolithic Grand Coulee dam. |
