| Description | Here is shown the upper part of the Little Dalles as they appeared before being drowned out by the rising waters of the reservoir. Even now, when the river is at flood stage, a noticeable current remains as far downstream as the foot of these rapids, some 15 miles below the Canadian border. Here the Columbia was forced to turn on edge in order to pass thru the narrow gorge it had carved in this huge limestone dike which blocked its channel. This channel was widened and cleared with...
