Field Value
Title Completed Spillway Bucket
Description This shows approximately a thousand foot section of the spillway bucket just before cutting of the downstream arm of the cofferdam, resulting in the permament flooding of this area. On June 01, 1942 the first water passed over the drumgates in the spillway section. Thus a giant waterfall of singular beauty and immense volume was born. It was then that this bucket took up the task of dissipating this enormous energy. Half a dozen trenches were drilled into the tailrace bedrock between the... The bucket was chosen after consideration of lifetime erosion and based on the Bureau of Reclamation calculations the lip erodes around 2 inches every six years, and assuming no maintenance, the lip would disappear after 715 years.
