Title | Grand Coulee Township |
Description | This view is looking west over part of the town of Grand Coulee, and Coulee center, as it appeared in 1937. During the CBI contract the towns around the dam were congested to the point that it was almost impossible to find a room in which to sleep, much less house a family. The canyon of the Grand Coulee extends off to the right in the background. Several more such construction towns are located in the Coulee; social phases of a great engineering project in the wilderness. In them live... Grand Coulee Township was created during the "high ball" construction period whose population rapidly expanded during construction of the dam, and then just as quickly declined afterward. |
