| Description | Compressed air supplies the force to the power cylinder of these duplex piston displacement grout pumps, thus giving the operator a sensitive control over the grouting operation, as well as affording great simplicity and flexibility. Grouting of a hole was considered complete when it maintained a backpressure of 2/3 the maximum pressure used to grout it. One "B" grout hole in the foundation bedrock took 87 tons of cement grout, and a "C" hole took 8,500 sacks, or 799,000 pounds of cement... Three types of holes, A, B, and C formed the grout curtain that sealed the cracks and crevices in the bedrock below the dam. The U.S.B.R. grouted the high pressure "A" holes and contractors did the others. Type A holes were 50 to 500 feet deep, and received 500 or more pounds of pressure. Type "B" holes were around 30 feet deep and required low pressure grouting, around 200 pounds. Type "C" holes were 50 to 250 feet deep and also required high pressure grouting around 400 pounds.
