Title | Emptying Blaw-Knox Concrete Buckets |
Description | Care was taken to avoid "rock pockets" on the sides of the pour by working the large aggregate and voids out of those areas by use of the feet, and also using hand tools. Notice the "whistle punk" or telephone signal man, on the left, who directs movement of the 11 ton loaded bucket, by talking directly to the crane operator in his cab high above the trestle. Concrete placing was both a strenuous and dangerous task. The record month was in October, 1939, when 536,264 cubic yards were... Following dumping the bucket it was 36 hours before the form could be stripped off, and not less than 72 hours could elapse between successive column pours. |
