Description | A dispatcher loaded the various finished aggregates on the main hauling belt as the tripper operator at the mixing plant stockpile directed him by telephone. <br> Such a conveyor system, with a belt 48" wide, 10,000 feet long, and traveling 700 feet per minute, was a simple and amazingly rapid method of moving large quantities of such material. This record breaking conveyor belt allowed construction crews to excavate large amounts of spoil from the Grand Coulee Dam Site. It was the largest ever constructed at the time and did on occasion collapse on the unsteady foundations of spoil it ejected into Rattlesnake Canyon. |
