Description This view from the west wall of the Coulee, with the southwestern part of the Hartline Basin in the background, shows the remains of the great flood channel cut as the torrent rushed toward the narrow outlet of the Hartline Basin to the right. There it carved out the most rugged, wildest, and spectacular of all the abandoned channels of the scablands; Spring Coulee, Deadman's Coulee, Dry Coulee, and later the great Lower Coulee. Concentrated in the Grand Coulee, the entire stupendous flow... Looking South down the Columbia River.
