Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; september 1970 CENTRAL UTAH PROJECT the cantral central centraz utah project projects planned and being constructed by the bureau of reclamation is located in the central and east central part of utah and is the most significant water resource development program in the state the project provides utah the opportunity to use most of her allottedshare allotted share of colorado river water also it is the most feasible means of providing large amounts of additional water to the most highly developed part of the state where population growth and industrial development are continuing at a rate far above the average for the state and the nation utahs future industrial economywill economy will wiil be governed by the water that can be made available water developed by the central utah project will be used for municipal and industrial purposes irrigation hydroelectric power fish and wildlife and recreation flood control and water quality control will also be benefited it is estimated that construction costs of the centrad central centraz utah projectwill project will probably exceed 1 billion the tha he central utah project within limits of available water supply could involve directly or indirectly practically all ofutah of utah to facilitate planning and construction the project has been div divided ided aided into six separate units four of these units yarnal vernal vernaz bonnevizte bonnevie bonnevi tte tle jensen and upatco upazco were authorized for construction in 1956 by the colorado river storage project act the uintah unitiwas unit aros uros ulas iwas vros authorized in 1968 by the colorado river basin project act subject to a finding of feasibility by the secretary of the interior the uta ute uteindian indian unit was alsoapproved also aiso approved for a feasibility report by the 1968 act but has not yet been authorized for construction thejensen the jensen vernaz vernals upazco upaloo and uintah units are relatively small and are situated entirelywithin entirely within the uinta basin they develop local in basin water supplies for irrigation of indian and non indian lands and for municipal and industrial purposes in duchesne and uintah counties the bonneville bonnevilte bonnevizze and ute idian indian units involve both the uinta basin and the bonneville basin and are very complex in plan extensive in scope and involve large expenditures of funds the central utah water conservancy district will administer the sale anddelivery and delivery of central utah project water will operate and maintain most of the project facilities andwill angwill and will contract with the united states government for repayment of the reimbursable costs of the project the district represents the people of the 12 county area of central utah following is a brief explanation of the six units of the project more detail is given to the bonneville bonnevitle thebonnevizze Bonne vitle unit because it is currenlty curren1ty under construction
