Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; includes a discussion of several longterm long term options for development along the involved streams and the associated environmental impacts these alternatives include the diamond fork power system two modifications of it and one other plan for ensuring longterm long term delivery of the mai m&i water supply while maintaining acceptable environmental conditions draft and final environmental statements on the diamond fork power system or a suitable alternative are scheduled for release to the public in 1983 prior to a decision on construction of that system and will present more detailed plans impacts and mitigation measures the impacts in the provo river drainage and the measures to mitigate them reflect full development of the mai m&i system in that drainage since no further develop ment is contemplated there as part of the bonneville unit the alpine and jordan aqueducts would deliver project mai m&i water to users in the metropolitan salt lake orem provo area an existing diversion structure on the provo river about 14 miles below jordanelle danelle Jor reservoir and the existing aqueduct which it feeds would be converted from hydroelectric to project use for diverting reservoir releases from the provo river into the alpine and jordan aqueducts other significant measures necessary for the construction of the mai m&i system would be the relocation of almost 100 people who presently live within the boundaries of the land required for jordanelle Jor danelle reservoir and the replacement of sections of two major highways around the south and west perimeters peri meters of the reservoir to take advantage of the public recreation opportunities that would be made possible with the construction and operation of the mai m&i system several measures would be taken most of the irrigation storage capacity presently stored at 15 reservoirs in the headwaters of the provo river would be transferred to jordanelle Jor danelle reservoir to improve their recreation fishing and aesthetic value A small campground and trailhead would be constructed in conjunction with these improvements at jordanelle Jor danelle reservoir two recreation complexes would be constructed additionally because releases from jordanelle Jor danelle reservoir would improve 10 miles of the provo river for fishing boating and kayaking kay aking between jordanelle Jor danelle and the existing deer creek reservoirl reservoir reservoirs right of way would be acquired on both sides of the river to provide public access to protect existing stream fishery and wildlife values several measures which have been coordinated with the fish and wildlife service would be employed upstream from jordanelle Jor danelle reservoir enough storage would be maintained in the headwater reservoirs so that releases could be made to maintain minimum fishery flows in the river to jor danelle reservoir water would be released from storage in jordanelle Jor danelle I 1 1 deer creek reservoir completed in 1941 was built by the bureau of reclamation as part of the provo river project it is a 152600 acre foot reservoir providing mai m&i water to salt lake city through the salt lake aqueduct irrigation water to salt lake utah summit and wasatch counties and hydroelectric generation A 5
