Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; FISH and ANU aud WILDLIFE SERVICE REPORT REPCRT state and provides economic and et thetic esthetic etthetic adran adren advantages tages not as yet fully realized the need for preserving the states remaining recreation fish and wildlife resources should receive full consideration in any plan for development of the states land and water resources the central utah project is proposed for development in two phases the initial and the ultimate the initial phase the only portion of the project which is discussed herein would consist principally of the 37 mile strawberry aqueduct from rock creek to strawberry reservoir with reservoirs power plants and distribution facilities in the bonneville Bonn evilie eville and uinta basins the strawberry aqueduct a series of tunnels would intercept flows from rock creek hades creek wolf creek west fork of the duchesne river currant creek layout creek and water hollow reservoirs to regulate inflow to the aqueduct would be provided on rock creek west fork of the duchesne river and currant creek the 8200 acre strawberry reservoir would be enlarged to 19 19300 300 300 .300 acres through construction of the soldier creek dam at a site approximately six miles below the present dam the existing tunnel outlet from strawberry reservoir to the bonneville Bonn evilie basin would be enlarged below the tunnel outlet would be four power plants the wasatch aqueduct the mona nephi canal and an enlarged mona reservoir and elberta canal upstream storage of provo river water would be made possible through exchange with strawberry reservoir releases to utah lake this would require construction of bates dam on the provo river hobble creek dam on little hobble creek and front dam near sandy utah the diking and draining of portions of utah lake and the channel enlargement of the upper jordan river are also proposed project features designed to replace diverted flows and to expand irrigation and municipal use in the uinta basin wo would uld inc include lud iud e hanna reservoir on the duchesne river starvation reservoir on strawberry river with a feeder canal from the duchesne river upalco reservoir off stream from lake fork stanaker reservoir off stream from ashley creek and tyzack reservoir on brush creek the initial phase of the central utah project would divert at the point of interception the entire winter flows from seven trout producing streams of the uinta basin annual flows ranging from 65 percent of the supply from intercepted streams to 85 percent of the flow from streams having storage facilities will be diverted to strawberry reservoir for use in the bonneville Bonn evilie basin while the balance would be uncontrolled spills without provision for constant winter flows the complete deviate de watering ring of stream segments for even short periods of time would eliminate the fisheries of those segments the period necessary for recuperation of the fisheries is extended because the aquatic organisms are also destroyed the fluctuating reservoirs like others in the state are not expected to be good trout producers whether this is due specifically to their severe fluctuation steep banks muddy shorelines elevation 2
