Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; IWA page 4 tule val gal valley ey since 1980 hovingh has been studying the western spotted frog in tule valley this frog was observed in seven springs with three springs containing abundant populations and four springs containing submarginal popul kopul populations at ions lons the tule valley population of western spotted frogs may be the only viable population in utah sevier river drainage tanner 1940 turner 1960 letter musser 1960 university of utah collection and morris and tanner the great basin naturalist 29 4581 45 81 located western spotted frogs along the san pitch river between milburn mil mii burn to just south of fairview hovingh in 1986 failed to locate these populations although the habitat appeared to be intact further efforts must be made in this region to determine if any western spotted frogs are living along the san pitch river locations indicated by literature or collections 1 one mile south of fairview east side of highway 89 2 two miles south of milburn mil burn on the san pitch river 3 at the approximate elevation of 6140 feet along the san pitch river three miles north of fairview eastern juab county western spotted frog was collected at burriston ponds in 1960 brigham young university collections and near mono reservoir morris and tanner 1969 hovingh examined burriston pona ondkfor for several hours and could not find any frogs in 1986 examination of the entire region between highway 132 and mono lake must be undertaken mono lake is being proposed for a greatly enlarged reservoir by the central utah project wasatch front in salt lake and utah counties in 1960 turner letter encountered the western spotted frog at the diagonal along van winkle expressway in salt lake county pendletonwoodbury Pendleton Woodbury collected this same species at this same location in 1946 the university of california collections contain specimens from this location in 1949 as well as specimens from east murray tanner 1931 utah adademy academy of science 8 159198 159 198 reported this species from fort douglas and from murray efforts to locate the wettern western spotted frog in salt lake county failed in 19841986 1984 1986 it is unlikely at this time that any western spotted frogs survive in salt lake county turner 1960 letter encountered frogs at two locations near provo and morris and tanner 1969 studied the western spotted frogs at three locations with one being destroyed during the study brigham young university collections contain specimens from some of these locations in provo in 19841986 1984 1986 hovingh could not find the western spotted frog at two of 6f af these vocations tocations applegarth 1975 letter examined the morris and tanner sites and coutd contd not find any frogs it is unlikely at this time that any western spotted frogs survive along the provo benchlands bench lands provo river drainage turner 1960 letter found western spotted frogs at vivian park and along the south fork of the provo river morris morfis and tanner 1969 studied the western spotted frog at the springs located one and one half miles up the south fork of the provo river brigham young university collections contain specimens from the south fork of the provo river applegarth 1975 ahd aad hovingh 19841986 1984 1986 could not find any western spotted frogs at this location turner 1960 letter also found western spotted frogs 15 miles east of kamas in the backwater of the provo river this location is near soapstone junction and in 19841986 1984 1986 hovingh could not find any frogs except chorus frogs at this location other locations along the provo river including the jordanelle Jor danelle dam and reservoir site failed to turn up any frogs the wetlands associated with ross creek however did contain leopard frogs 224
