Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; CHAPTER II 11 development PLAN PIAN ilan water diverted northward from the wasatch aqueduct including the present supply of the strawberry valley project would drop through the castilla power plant to spanish fork river during the irrigation season this water would be diverted from the river through existing irrigation works and pover power plants dlants blants to lands under the strawberry valley project the new central utah project water being used to supplement the supply of inadequately irrigated lands in the area during the nonirrigation season the water would flow down spanish fork river to utah lake being diverted en route so far as practicable through existing power plants of the strawberry valley project the water reaching utah lake would be used in exchange for an equivalent amount now flowing into the lake from provo river the provo river water in turn would be stored in the potential 65000 acre foot bates reservoir on provo river approximately 8 miles northeast of heber utah and in the potential 850 acre foot hobble creek reservoir on little hobble creek about 5 miles south of wallsburg Walls burg utah the operation of these reservoirs would be correlated with the operation of the deer creek reservoir and other existing reservoirs on the provo river system to the mutual advantage of both present and potential water users the central utah project water in provo river would be used for irrigation municipal and industrial purposes in the francis franc is heber wa walls lis ils burg and provo salt lake city areas A portion of the water would be conveyed to lands west of the jordan river through the existing provo reservoir canalenlarged canal enlarged by the bureau of reclamation as a feature of the provo river project and the potential west valley canal A portion would be used for irrigation and other purposes in the area from provo to lehi an additional amount of water wo woald wonld voaid donld ald ala aia be conveyed to municipalities in salt lake county through the salt lake aqueduct also constructed as a part of the provo river project central utah project water conveyed in the aqueduct would be regulated to meet fluctuating demands in the potential 490 acre foot front reservoir located 2 1 mile south of the mouth of big cottonwood canyon water from the aqueduct would be pumped to the reservoir the remainder oi of the exchange water would be used for irrigation in areas adjacent to the towns of francis heber city and wallsburg Walls burg provo bay an arm of utah lake would be diked biked and drained to reduce evaporation losses from the lake and to reclaim 9.340 9340 9340 acres of land for irrigation farming the provo bay development would require construction of the palmyra diversion dam and canal redd diversion dam redd north and redd south canalsy canaley canals an irrigation pumping plant piant and a drainage pumping plant A 7 mlle mile section of the jordan river channel between utah lake and jordan narrows would be enlarged as a flood control measure the channel improvement was authorized as a part of the provo river project but construction st has not been undertaken improvement of the channel from jordan narrows to great salt lake is being investigated by the corps of engineers 16
