Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; FOREST S SERVICE RE SE REPORT wasatch aqueduct the wasatch aqueduct from the mouth of spanish fork canyon to levan does not cross national forest land but the channel should be provided with bridges or other crossings to permit game animals to cross on their winter migrations if this is not done there will undoubtedly be heavy losses when game animals attempt to cross this lined channel if the aqueduct is fenced to protect the game adequate crossings should be provided to permit migration to their winter range if their migration is checked at the line of the aqueduct game will concentrate and much damage will be done to the winter range on and below the national forest this concentration will result in decreasing forage supply by overgrazing will create critical soil erosion and will threaten the game herd with heavy losses from malnutrition severe overgrazing of these lower slopes will create a flood threat that will endanger the aqueduct the aqueduct touches on part of the uinta national forest from monks hollow reservoir in section 32 township 8 south range 3 5 east slb&m through sections 31 T 8 S R 3 5 E sec 36 T 8 S R 4 E and sections 1 2 10 and 1 16 T 9 S R 4 E a distance of approximately 5 miles 3 miles on national forest land this section of the wasatch iia yia IJa satch aqueduct is in a heavily grazed area and will require fencing on both sides for safety of livestock A bridge across the aqueduct will be required in section 2 where a forest service road crosses the aqueduct approximately along this same section of the line the present water from the strawberry reservoir used by the strawberry project in the vicinity of spanish fork and payson is diverted through the channel of diamond fork river the volume of water has in the past and is still causing serious erosion along the river channel within the forest boundary construction of the aqueduct from monks hollow reservoir down diamond fork will greatly reduce the erosion problem along this section of diamond fork and will thereby reduce the sediment now carried into inco indo in co the valley vailey by this stream the cost of the fencing will be approximately 1500 1500 1300 and the cost of the bridge will be approximately 5000 5000 3000 the cost of these two features required by teason reason reason of construction of the aqueduct is far more than compensated by the benefit from the elimination of erosion along diamond fork parallel to this same section and sediment deposition in irrigation facilities in the valley and along the flood plain of the river 3
