Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; toxic materials no activities relating directly to the CUP have been identified that would result in significant changes in pesticide or heavy metal loadings to utah lake this fact combined with the large stabilizing capacity of the lake leads to a projection of no significant pesticide and heavy metals problems in the lake sediments temporary sediment producing activities may occur with the construction of CUP features but with the exception of the provo and spanish fork river delta areas where larger sediments would be deposited if generated from upstream activities the small increase in sediment loads if any are seen to have little impact on the lake if increased sediment loads occur the main impacts would be in the tributary streams where the potential to clog and smother is real in the lake itself turbid conditions have occurred occured naturally for thousands of years with apparently only a marginal intensif intensify intensification ication mication resulting from mans activities of course locally in the lake a large increase in sediment loadings or disruption of the natural littoral zone bottom scouring and cleansing action could be disruptive and harmful to lake biota with diking of provo and goshen bays the potential exists for some modification of currents and wave patterns in the lake particularly along the goshen bay dike and the shoreline areas near its terminal points this is not seen as having any significant effect on the lake itself but just in the immediate vicinity of the dike in locations where present conditions support scoured and washed sandgravelrubble areas provo bay as a treatment area provo bay plays an important role in stabilizing large nutrient and BOD loadings before they reach the main lake this fact raises the question as to the impact on the main lake if these waters are collected in a collector canal and discharged directly into the lake provo bay 3 23
