Relation | Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; B BUREAU tohei tthei A UOF OF hines MINES bines alford iflporf alforr it is recommend recommended eed ted that additional investigation of the drainage tunnel proposal be made this will include collecting and assembling data concerning ore reserves and mining costs of the various properties detailed study of the geology of areas related to the ore occurrences and tunnel line studies of underground water storage and distribution and detailed topographic and geologic mapping in some parts of the area which mapping has not been completed to obtain information concerning ground conditions along the line of the proposed tunnel and the depth continuity of favorable ore host horizons in the park city district it is suggested that drilling be completed as follows 1 ten diamond drill holes totaling 12 12000 000 ooo f feet eet beet dril adril drilled I 1 ed f from rom surface stations along the line of the proposed tunnel between the portal of the proposed tunnel and alta and between brighton and a point west of the thaynes hhaynes shaft on silver king property these holes will be drilled for the purpose of determining structure at tunnel level and in areas above the tunnel level to provide information for reasonable projection of the structure to tunnel level the latter holes will be drilled in areas where depth to tunnel level is in excess of 1 1500 000 .000 coo feet a depth too great for efficient diamond drilling location of the holes will be made after detailed study of geologic conditions along the line of the proposed tunnel 2 diamond drilling from underground stations on the 1300 foot level or lower level of the silver king coalition mines co property to determine continuity of ore bearing structures and horizons at depth the 1300 foot level is approximately the level of the spiro tunnel which drains the silver king property to this level the drilling will consist of approximately 5000 feet in three holes the lowest stoping area on the property is approximately 600 feet below the spiro level but because of the high cost of pumping water from this area to the spiro level the pumps were pulled during 1950 and the workings are under water to a point a short distance below the spiro level no information is available concerning plans of the company to unwater the flooded section of the property if this were done and the diamond drilling completed from the lowest level the total footage of drilling would be considerably less location of the proposed holes on silver king property should be determined after study of geologic information made available by the mining company and that obtained by further investigation of the area 3 A churn drill or other large diameter hole approximately 850 feet deep drilled vertically from the bottom of the daly mest west shaft this hole will be advantageous in later shaft sinking to the level of the proposed tunnel and also will provide information on the continuity of formations below present underground exposures 3 |
