Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; CHAPTER VI POWER PCWER irrigation pumping requirements power requirements for project pumping are expected to amount to 2200000 kilowatt hours annually in the initial phase of the central utah project the energy would be used at two pumping plants in the provo bay area one for drainage and one for irrigation the two plants would require 1 1275 1375 275 275 .275 kilowatts for operation residential requirements residential power requirements are expected to increase as a result of population gains brought on by industrial commercial and agricultural expansion these requirements also will increase as a result of the more widespread use of electrical appliances by 1970 the residential requirements in the market area are expected to amount to 1200 million kilowatt hours or to 4100 kilowatt hours per customer this estimate is in line with the steadily increasing requirements of past years the national average use per customer was 264 kilowatt hours in 1913 339 kilowatt hours in 1920 547 kilowatt hours in 1930 952 kilowatt hours in 1940 1229 kilowatt hours in 1945 and 1438 kilowatt hours in 1947 average residential energy use per customer is higher in the west than in the nation as a whole the 1945 rate per customer was 1 1460 i460 460 460 .460 kilowatt hours in the mountain states and 1665 kilowatt hours in the pacific coast states commercial requirements estimates of future commercial energy use are based on past relationships between residential and commercial requirements they are also based on the anticipated expanded use of electricity by commercial establishments for signs sieps air conditioning refrigeration elevators store and shop window lighting and miscellaneous appliances the area areas s commercial energy requirements for 1970 have been estimated at 490 million kilowatt hours as compared to 117 million kilowatt hours used in 1945 other requirements the 1970 energy requirements in the area for uses other than those discussed in preceding paragraphs have been estimated at 64 million kilowatt hours compared to 49 million kilowatt hours used in 1945 such uses include street and highway lighting sales to public authorities and miscellaneous uses no requirements for railroad electrification have been included although it is possible that portions of the union pacific denver and rio grande western and other railroads in it the area may be electrified before 1970 108
