Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; would require incorporation of the present canal flow into the aqueduct the capacity of the canal is initially 550 cfs cs but decreases throughout its length as it feeds to laterals literals late rals the same literals laterals late rals would have to be accommodated by the aqueduct because of the increased flow the aqueduct would have to carry its diameter would be 102 inches and pumping would be necessary to maintain the flow needed the total length of reach 4 with this alternative would be 19.4 194 194 miles primarily because of the larger flow capacity needed the cost would be about 265 percent of the proposed alignment the major construction problem would be a disruption of summer irrigation flows to present delivery points during the 3 year construction period 2 impacts one of the most significant impacts from combining the flows of reach 4 with the provo reservoir canal would be an enhancement of safety elimination of the open canal part of which is concrete lined would eliminate an obvious hazard residents are understandably concerned especially as the area is becoming more residential the open canal has been the direct or indirect cause of accidents in which 11 people have drowned livestock and wildlife losses have also been significant another major impact would be the interference with existing canal flows during the 3 year construction period the extent of interference would depend on the means employed to minimize the effect but the impacts would be significant even at best impacts associated with right of way acquisition would be negligible because of using the existing right of way existing sewer lines and other otili utili ties in the ground would be affected wildlife impacts during construction would be similar to those of the proposed plan A loss of vegetative habitat along the canal would occur with elimination of present seepage areas and would affect the small animals and birds that now use these areas the total area affected is estimated to be about 100 acres or less the water now lost to seepage would be used for agricultural or municipal and industrial purposes 7 alternative highway alignments around jordanelle Jor danelle reservoir As described in chapter A about 9 miles of U US S highway 40 and 5.5 55 55 miles of US highway 189 would be relocated because the existing highway would be inundated by jordanelle Jor danelle reservoir the section of US highway 40 to be relocated extends from park city junction to about 4 miles north of heber and the section of US highway 189 extends from hailstone junction to 2 miles west of francis H 43
