Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; 97 recent alluvium juniper ephedra sp and bunchgrass bunch grass grow on adjacent slopes pinyon juniper and sage grow on the mesa above the shelter and cottonwood and salt cedar grow in rock creek bottoms below the elevation is 1902 meters the shelter is very small with a floor area of only 1 m by 2 m the depth of the fill is 10 cm or less and consists primarily of pack rat feces due to steepness of the slope the deposit is eroding material observed includes small pieces of charcoal burnt bone fired clay and animal bone no chipping debris or diagnostic artifacts were found consequently no date of occupation or cultural affiliation can be assigned wissiup waterfowl management area 42un520 site 42un520 is an open site consisting of a single 3 sided rectilinear cobble alignment the site is located in the flood plain of the duchesne river the river is 800 m to the west immediately west of the site is an irrigation canal approximately 100 m to the east is the foot of the first bench above the flood plain the flood plain is composed of recent alluvium the dominant vegetation is greasewood sagebrush cottonwoods cotton woods low grasses and weeds the bench slope is completely devoid of vegetation the elevation is 1445 meters the cobble alignment is a single row of cobbles placed in an irregularly shaped rectangle with an open end to the south the alignment measures 2.9 29 29 m by 2.8 28 28 m it has been disturbed along the western edge the site sits on a low alluvial sand terrace within the flood plain no cultural material was observed the alignment is historic
