Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; days annually and thereby satisfy about 33 percent of the estimated 2 million days of new recreation demand projected to occur in the area by 1985 the largest general recreation increases would occur because of opportunities created by the construction of jordanelle Jor danelle reservoir though substantial gains would also occur at the upper provo river reservoirs and in kayaking kay aking use on the provo river as a result of project provided access points and other whitewater boating facilities A total of 502000 new recreation days would be provided and 45700 existing days would be enhanced in value resulting in a total project benefit of about 1650000 as shown in table C 1 table C 1 estimated annual recreation and tourism benefits for mai m&i system value per recreation recreation total days day benefits jordanelle Jor danelle reservoir 474900 310 3.10 310 1472000 upper provo river reservoirs enhanced recreation 45700 45 .45 45 20600 new recreation 16500 2.60 260 42900 kayaking Kay aking on the provo river 10600 10.80 1080 114500 total net benefit 1650000 165000 5 the project would increase fishing days by a total of about 153000 most of the gains would result from new and enhanced lake fisheries at jordanelle Jor danelle reservoir and the upper provo river reservoirs although stream fishing would be significantly enhanced in the provo river between jordanelle Jor danelle and deer creek reservoirs and in the diamond fork spanish fork river system A tradeoff for these gains would be the loss of stream fishing days at the jordanelle Jor danelle reservoir site and reduced stream fishing days in the upper provo river and in the stream below deer creek reservoir project caused changes in flows below deer creek however would relieve recreation pressure from an existing combination of heavy fishing and boating use which already taxes the river to its maximum capacity and which is increasing similarly project caused changes improving the fishery in the river above the reservoir could serve to draw anglers and boaters to that reach of river from stretches now receiving optimum use table C 2 shows the project impacts on fishing days since the proposed jordanelle Jor danelle reservoir is within an hours drive of salt lake city provo and orem it is expected that more than half of the visitors to the area would be weekend and holiday users from the urban complex while most of the rest would be from the two county agricultural service area although it is not anticipated that the recreationists would make large expenditures individually an estimated 135000 would be generated annually from recreation use around the reservoir in addition to the more sizable expenditures at the recreationists point of origin for such items as gas and food C 5
