Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; sites are the red cloud loop the drive through the ages geologic area merkley park picnic area and the natural history state museum in vernal the green river below flaming gorge dam and the yampa yamna yanna river are popular for float trips both commercial and private bottle hollow complex owned and operated by the ute indian tribe near roosevelt provides water oriented recreational opportunities to residents of the area and tourists bottle hollow reservoir hub of the development was constructed as a segment of the bonneville unit the vernal units steinaker lake state recreation area shown in figure B 9 is the only major recreational site in the immediate jensen unit area the utah division of parks and recreation estimated an average of about 45000 recreation days of use per year for steinaker lake for the period 1971 through 1973 this usage included sightseeinvcnicking sightseeings picnicking camping swimming waterskiing water skiing boating fishing and hunting 1 u steinaker lake offers 820 acres of water surface as compared to 520 acres at the proposed tyzack reservoir b without the jensen unit at the present time the immediate area of the proposed jensen unit is not heavily utilized by recreationists As previously explained the bulk of the hunting fishing camping etc occurs in surrounding locations without jensen unit it is anticipated that low tow intensity use of the area would remain in spite of the expected increase in population for the unit area 8 historical and archeological archaeological Arche ological sites tyzack reservoir would be 10 air miles from dinosaur national monument which contains one of the most remarkable dinosaur fossil deposits in the world bone fossils of several large dinosaurs are displayed at the visitor center bones of these ancient monsters are preserved in stone just as they came to rest on a prehistoric sandbar sandbag 140 million years ago A national park service study indicates that since the jensen unit area is located in a different geological formation fossilized gzfirical evidence should not be present there v 2 the university of utah department of anthropology under contract with the national park service conducted an archeological archaeological arche ological survey of the tyzack da dan dam and reservoir site in the spring of 1973 the survey report23t reporf23 stated that the objective of the survey was to insure that sites or materials of archeological archaeological arche ological value will not be jeopardized by proposed construction andor development activities according to the report the area to the northeast of the reservoir was considered B 44
