Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; tar sandstone deposits also occur in the basin but these deposits do not exist within the construction area of tyzack reservoir the following two typical geologic sections figures B 1 and B 2 adapted from the utah geological association publication 4 on the energy resources of the uinta basin 1974 depicts the general subsurface conditions in the jensen unit area vol kul voo 06 most likely the geologic section for steinaker D dfgwj faw f9w s similar to the section at the proposed tyzack reservoir site lugy 1697 the bureau of mines reports the presence of placer gold in the green river gravels and adjacent terraces in the vicinity of jensen utah although finely divided and difficult to recover gold was produced at jensen and upstream from the burns pumping plant site between the years 1905 and 1942 gold content of the placers reported to be valued between 60 cents and 175 1.75 175 per cubic yard would today be worth between 480 4.80 480 and 14.00 1400 per cubic yard the largest annual recovery 334 ounces was in 1942 4 Seismic seismicity seismicit it the jensen unit area including the tyzack dam reservoir and aqueduct sites is located in the relatively stable colorado plateau province seismic activity has been infrequent and of low tow magnitude only one earthquake has been recorded in the unit area and this occurred at vernal in february 1956 with a richter magnitude of 3.7 37 37 the unit area is in national geodetic survey formerly coast and geodetic survey risk zone 1 this zone includes those areas where earthquake occurrence is least probable and where very minor damage would be expected the nearest area of significant seismic activity is about 8590 85 90 miles southwest near price utah recent seismic shocks up to a richter magnitude of 4.5 45 45 have occurred there some shocks have been related to rock bursts in coal mines the nearest area of minor seismic activity is in the rangely langely Ran gely colorado area about 50 miles to the southeast where earthquake activity may be associated with oil withdrawal figure B 3 shows the location and magnitude of earthquake activity for the state of utah from 1850 through 1965 5 vegetation a existing conditions 1 brush creek drainage in general dominant native vegetative species vary throughout the area but all are common to the semiarid semi arid regions of the western united B 6
