Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; during the initial years year s of operation nutrients in the impounded water would probably increase as the rising water level inundated vegetation and other organic matter and caused it to decay this increase which would continue for several years until conditions stabilized would be beneficial in the development of a productive and stable aquatic community both in the reservoir and in the river below the dam however nutrient levels would remain below levels which would cause nuisance aquatic growth or algae blooms after conditions stabilized nutrient levels in the reservoir and immediately downstream would decrease and approach inflow levels human waste which accompanies recreation development would not pose a serious problem as a source of nutrient inflow to the proposed reservoir either self contained toilets or septic tanks with drain fields are being considered for wastewater treatment self contained toilet facilities would prevent nutrients from escaping into the reservoir while approved drain fields would allow soluble nitrates and some phosphates to pass through the soil system to the reservoir these low level additions of nutrients would be beneficial to the biological production in the reservoir some uncontrollable recreation activities in and near the reservoir might produce small amounts of contaminants but should have only a minimal impact on the reservoir thermal stratification is expected to occur at taskeech Tas keech reservoir but it is not expected to create water quality problems stratification is the layering of water according to temperature with the coldest and therefore densest water being trapped at the bottom of the water profile because the density of the bottom layer prohibits mixing with surface water it can in time become depleted of dissolved oxygen as a result of oxygen demand from decomposing organic matter when and if this occurs the bottom becomes useless to the aquatic population and thereby severely reduces available habitat but because taskeech Tas keech reservoir would be nutrient poor stratification should not pose a problem for the reservoirs aquatic environment it should also be considered that moon lake reservoir which taskeech Tas keech reservoir would resemble in many water quality respects stratifies but no dissolved oxygen deficiencies have been recorded there 3 lake fork river below taskeech Tas keech reservoir the spillway and outlet works at taskeech Tas keech dam would be designed to prevent the development of gas supersaturation downstream and thus protect the fishery from this problem there would also be no dissolved oxygen deficiencies in the releases because of the stream gradient the low nutrient levels and the relatively short detention time of water in the reservoir As a result the outflowing outblowing out flowing waters would approach the same overall high quality as the inflowing flowing inblowing in waters because of this quality the diversion of project mai m&i water could safely be made at any point between the confluence of the lake fork and yellowstone rivers and the class C canal the releases would not undergo any significant nific ant deterioration until irrigation return flows from project water C 28
