Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; attachment A WETLAND ANALYSIS and flood storage the 50 acres in the drain tunnel drainage are valuable primarily for water purification and wildlife grazing C wetlands along the proposed highway relocations approximately 30 acres of wetlands were identified with the proposed highway rights of way most of these occur on silver creek and adjacent to the provo river see attachment al A l 1 the rest are small sites located on the cross drainages the wetlands were generally located in floodplains flood plains and received their water from both the streams and from ground water flowing into the flood plain the plants included cattails coattails cat tails typha latifolia lati folia sedges carex nebrascensis and aquatilus aqu atilus rushes juncus balticus baltitus bal ticus and nevadensis skunk weed polemonium occidentale reed canary grass phalaris arundineccae large leaf avens geum macrophyllum and willows salix salix spy apt spt sp the soils varied from organic to mineral and exhibited colors of 5 yr 2.51 251 251 and 10 yr 31 the 30 acres of wetlands are generally inundated or saturated on a semipermanent basis they provide very good wildlife habitat flood storage and water purification II 11 WETLAND IMPACTS the wetlands described above would be totally lost as a result of the construction and operation of jordanelle Jor danelle dam and reservoir accompanied by highway relocations the total loss would be about 165 acres 135 of which would be caused by jordanelle Jor danelle dam and reservoir and 30 acres by highway relocations the water quality habitat flood storage and recreational values of the wetlands would also be lost III 111 ili WETLAND compensation AND mitigation PLAN A introduction the proposed jordanelle Jor danelle reservoir will provide some inplace unplace compensation of the lost wetland values in addition the protection and management of wetlands associated with riparian habitats in other project areas will also provide replacement values for wetland losses these compensating values constitute the wetland mitigation plan as described below B jordanelle Jor danelle reservoir as compensation for wetland losses the proposed jordanelle Jor danelle reservoir at active capacity would have a surface area of about 3068 acres the average surface area would be about 2539 acres most of the reservoir area a lacustrine ecosystem would be classified as deep water or limnetic habitat habit habitats habitati atI atl 1 J 1 fish and wildlife service 1979 classification of wetlands and b deep eep beep water habitats of the united states FWSOBS 7931 page 12 91
