Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; CHAPTER III 111 lii 1 I AFFECTED environment AND environmental consequences vegetation page C 47 of FES impacts to vegetation different from those described in the FES are associated mainly with construction of the realigned US highway 189 north of the reservoir and the new county road some minor vegetation impacts would also occur from relocation of mine tailings and relocation of the river channel permanent vegetative losses would increase from the 3496 acres in the FES plan to about 3656 acres in the modified plan a net increase of about 160 acres temporary impacts of clearing and vegetative dis turbances tur bances would increase from about 799 acres to about 931 acres a net increase of about 132 acres most of the additional impacts would occur in sagebrush grass oak mountain brush and agricultural vegetative types total impacts to riparian habitat would increase by only 4 acres table 8 summarizes the changes in vegetation impacts table 8 vegetation impacts unit acres 1979 1986 net type of impact plan plan differences permanent loss 3496 3656 160 temporary loss 799 931 132 total impacts 4295 4587 292 table 9 on the following page presents the impacts to vegetation not only for the modifications but also as a summary for the other fea tures of the project the table provides an overview of the system im pacts in comparison to the specific impacts of the modifications wetland and riparian habitat when completed jordanelle Jor danelle reservoir recreation sites and highway relocations will result in the loss of about 634 acres of riparian habl tat an additional temporary disturbance will occur on about 23 acres shown on table 8 most impacts are located along the provo river with lesser amounts along silver creek and drain tunnel creek recent consultation with the corps of engineers which has statutory responsibility for wetlands under section 404 of the clean water act and field inspections by corps of engineers and bureau of reclamation biologists have resulted in a determination that about 165 acres of wet lands will be lost as a result of the project thirty acres of this loss will occur along the highway relocation alignments most of this loss would be at the silver creek and provo river crossings of the relocated US highway 40 and at the provo river crossing of the new wasatch county road another 135 acres will be lost within the jordan elle reservoir basin most of the wetlands lost are included in the 634 acres of riparian habitat losses all wetland and riparian habitat 48
