Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; lake valley annually A ll 112 mile mlle segment of the pipeline is being buried to ensure uninterrupted service and to moderate escalating maintenance and repair costs associated with ongoing damage in the olmsted slide area in provo canyon according to mr christiansen ti ansen countless rock and landslides have wreaked wrecked havoc with the pipeline which was originally built in the early 1900s as a wooden flume by utah power & light company as part of a hydroelectric project the olmsted aqueduct was acquired from upal in 1987 by the bureau of reclamation for use as a conduit for culinary water from the central utah UTAH LAWMAKERS CONTINUE SEEKING CUP FUNDING utahs congressional delegation utah gov norm bangerter and utah county commissioner brent C morris are continuing to attend congressional hearings to urge approval of a 760 million bill to fund completion of the 2 billion central utah project by the year 2000 the utah lawmakers testified before the US house of representatives senta tives committee on interior and insular affairs earlier this year and have been instrumental in assisting utahs congressmen in drafting a final funding bill for the CUP utahs congressional delegation has briefed the bush administration on particulars of the CUP funding bill while seeking full support of the bill by the president the bill allocates 302 million to complete the irrigation and drainage system for central utah farmers and 16 million to resolve the salinity content of utah lake that will increase when the CUP is completed an additional 2 million is earmarked for recreation facilities around the lake with an additional 750000 appropriated to repair the provo river corridor where the riparian area has been damaged by construction and development under underthe undertie Und erthe the bill the federal government would pay for 70 percent of the 302 million irrigation and drainage system while state and local water districts would fund 30 percent or about 90 million the bill would also give utah a 53 million payment credit for abandonment of the proposed mosida monida irrigation project on the west side of utah lake utah senators orrin hatch and jake garn reps howard nielsen james hansen and wayne owens and gov bangerter all voiced support for the funding bill two other groups attending a february hearing in the nations capital also endorsed the CUP bill the ute indian tribe and utahs public power groups jordanelle JOR DANELLE DAM PROJECT progressing ON SCHEDULE the jordanelle Jor danelle dam and reservoir a significant hub in the bonneville unit of the central utah project is progressing on schedule with construction expected to be completed in 1992 jordanelle Jor danelle work is approximately 55 percent complete although surface work was discontinued during the winter tunnel work continued during december january and february with all surface work scheduled to resume by mid march weather permitting stage I 1 of the jordanelle Jor danelle dam construction which included excavation of the earthen structure has been completed by granite construction company of watsonville wattonville Wat sonville calif stage 11 II of construction awarded to granite construction and torno america of san francisco california is under way work began on the jordanelle Jor danelle dam site june 27 1987 and is scheduled for completion in the fall of 1992 the 350 million jordanelle Jor danelle project located about six miles north of heber city is designed to store enough drinking water to meet the needs of 91000 families in salt lake utah and wasatch counties the jordan elle dam will stand 296 feet high with a crest length of 3600 feet and a crest width of 40 feet the compacted volume of material in the earthen structure will be 14504000 cubic yards before compaction this structure includes 42600000 cubic yards of impervious material 1472 14728000 8000 cubic yards of pervious material and 150000 cubic yards of riprap the jordanelle Jor danelle reservoir will have a capacity of 320300 acre feet of water with a surface area of 3.070 3070 acres when full comparatively parat ively deer creek reservoir downstream from jordanelle Jor danelle on the provo river has a capacity of 152546 acre acne feet jeet the utah department of transportation and wasatch county have assisted in transforming the landscape and making jordanelle Jor danelle accessible by completing 80 million in construction st on three major roadways more than 50 percent of a new 11 mlle mile stretch of highway 40 on the west side of the jor danelle dam has been complet complect
