Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; vv 4 ill awl ila i contract for the project can be entered into by 1986 the land acquisition must be negotiated by the bureau with the CUWCD board adopting it by resolution the district is asking the bureau to proceed expeditiously to acquire the necessary lands easements and right of ways by whatever means are available to them for the upalco unit and to begin construction immediately in a resolution prepared by CUWCD the district intends to pay 15 million in construction st expenses above the 90 million approved by congress district general manager don A christiansen said the project shouldnt cost 15 million above the approved amount butthat but that figure was included in the resolution to guarantee there would be adequate funds available we have to demonstrate to congress that the financing package is in place CUP to raise mona pond when water from the central utah project comes to juab county water in mona reservoir is expected to rise five feet and many more recreational opportunities could be provided say project officials the effects of the CUP canal on juab county were recently detailed by project officials for the juab county commission the reservoir will be one of the holding areas for CUP irrigation water which is expected to reach juab valley by 1992 A pumping station will be placed to send CUP water from mona reservoir to nephi and CUWCD newsletter across the levan ridge to the sevier bridge reservoir south and west of levan in order to accommodate the added water at mona reservoir a new concrete dam will have to be built officials say the present dam was built in 1895 and has been placed on the US army corps of engineers hit list of unsafe structures during 1983 and 1984 only sandbagging sand bagging prevented flood waters from overtopping over topping the dam additional land will have to be purchased to accommodate the reservoir in addition the nearby union pacific railroad tracks will have to be raised as will a newly built county bridge at the reservoirs south end officials also said a house near the reservoir may have to be moved burraston ponds a local fishing hole and the home of many water fowl near the reservoir will not be affected by the rising reservoir water level officials say CUP and county officials also talk about whether several small reservoirs should be built in area canyons the reservoirs could store runoff from area streams and the water would be swapped for CUP canal water as needed
