Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; CUWCD newsletter for jordan aqueduct 4 and alpine aqueduct 3 to be taken off the utah county tax rolls amount to 14.11 1411 acres in fee title lands all other remaining right of way is either perpetual easement or reserved right of way which will not be removed from the tax rolls using the present county assessment levies for the types of land involved the tax revenue loss would be approximately 2500 per year reclamation contract awarded euh ruh iv A 66 gg 6.6 66 million contract for the production of sand and aggregate for the upper stillwater dam the stillwater tunnel and appurtenant structures of the central utah projects bonneville unit was awarded by the bureau of reclamation secretary of the interior james watt announced watt said the contract went to marshall associated contractors inc and columbia excavating inc a joint venture in tualatin Tua latin oregon commissioner of reclamation robert N broadbent said the work is located approximately 38 miles northwest of duchesne utah in duchesne county and will consist of constructing a road and two bridges leading to the dam and tunnel and will require stockpiling sand and aggregate materials to aid in the dams construction the work is scheduled to be completed by november 1984 forty five nonfederal non federal workers and seven federal workers will be employed over the 2 year period to do the work broadbent said As one of nine bidders the joint venture of marshall associated contractors inc and columbia excavating inc had a winning bid of 6602693 the government s estimated cost for the work was 6658440 second and third low bids were 6785000 and 7292000 respectively upper stillwater dam is part of the strawberry collection system which will transport water from utahs uinta basin to the bonneville basin the upper stillwater reservoir created by the dam will serve as an equalizing reservoir and will provide significant recreational opportunities tuni ties the stillwater tunnel will carry water to strawberry reservoir the dam is designed to be constructed of roller compacted concre conacre concrete te this new process combines the best properties of an earthfill earthfall earth fill embankment and a concrete dam the process enables the contractor to use high production equipment which will allow a production rate 10 times faster than for a concrete dam while attaining the strength normally associated with a concrete dam this will be the second dam in the united states to be constructed of roller compacted concrete water for jordanelle Jor danelle the construction and operation of the proposed jordanelle Jor danelle reservoir and the jordan aqueduct system of the bonneville unit of the central utah project will not interfere with present established irrigation and municipal water uses or rights on the provo river the water to be stored in jordan elle reservoir will consist of the winter and high runoff flows of the provo river now reaching utah lake 3 since such waters in all but flood years now go toward making up the rights of users from utah lake they must be exchanged or replaced at the lake this will be accomplished by 1 release of bonneville unit water in strawberry reservoir to utah lake 2 use of water salvaged at utah lake by the future diking of goshen and provo bays to reduce excessive evaporation losses and 3 by recycling project return flows reaching the lake any power losses at utah power and lights olmsted hydro plant or at deer creek power plant due to regulation of the provo river by the jordanelle Jor danelle reservoir will be compensated required fishery flows will be maintained below jordanelle Jor danelle and deer creek reservoirs and below olmsted diversion dam appropriate water right applications to store the flood flows of the provo river and to divert and store by exchange the present winter flows bypassed to utah lake to satisfy utah lake users rights are on file in the utah state engineers office diversion and storage of water by the central utah project will be under the direction of the utah state engineer to assure that existing water rights are protected as provided under utah state water laws key to controlling utah lake the key to controlling the level of utah lake and consequently heavy flows to great salt lake via jordan river rests with the completion of two key features of the bonneville unit of the central utah project sponsored by the central utah water conservancy district these two features are 1 jordanelle Jor danelle dam and reservoir on the provo river about 8 miles north of heber and 2 the utah lake dikes on provo bay and goshen bay these features were authorized
