Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; the bonneville unit now under construction is the largest and most complex of the authorized units of the central utah project greater utilization of bonneville basin water made possible by the unit plan and a trans basin diversion of water will serve the needs of a growing population in the bonneville basin this complex unit includes ten new reservoirs and the enlargement of two existing reservoirs more than 140 miles of aqueducts tunnels and canal three powerplants power plants nine pumping plants and 200 miles of pipe drains starvation reservoir constructed on strawberry river three miles above duchesne has a capacity of 167000 acre feet it stores high flows of the duchesne and strawberry rivers storage water is used both for late season irrigation of about 26000 acres of land along the duchesne river and to replace water presently used in that area which will be diverted to the bonneville basin crossing the south flank of the uinta mountains the strawberry aqueduct about 37 miles long will collect flows from rock creek and seven other streams tributary of the duchesne river the upper stillwater and currant creek reservoirs will serve as equalizing reservoirs along the aqueduct water wi will I 1 I 1 flow by gravity through the aqueduct to the enlarged strawberry reservoir the completed soldier creek dam about 7 miles downstream from the strawberry dam has increased the potential capacity of strawberry reservoir 4 times 0 from 283000 to 1100000 acre f feet eet beet strawberry reservoir wi will I 1 I 1 be a longterm long term storage reservoir the new 65 mile long pressurized syar tunnel will divert storage water from strawberry reservoir through the wasatch divide to the bonneville basin approximately 197000 acre f feet eet beet of water will be released annually through the tunnel including 61000 acre feet of present yield from the existing strawberry reservoir water descending about 2.000 2000 feet to the bonneville basin floor will flow through the syar sixth water and dyne powerplants power plants of the diamond fork powersystem Power System the plants wil will wll I 1 have a total generating capacity of about 133000 kilowatts during the nonirrigation season about 97000 acre feet of water will be released to turn the pow er plant turbines these waters will be stored in four reservoirs 1 utah lake 2 the 51.500 51500 V MIIO VF ab 4 acre foot capacity hayes reservoir on diamond fork 3 the enlarged mona reservoir or 4 the existing sevier bridge reservoir water released from these reservoirs reservoirswill reservoir will swill wiil irrigate irrigateproject project land or will be used for municipal and industrial purposes wasatch aqueduct mona nephi canal and nephi sevier canal will convey irrigation water from the power plants and reservoirs to lands in utah and juab counties and the sevier river basin municipal and industrial water released from strawberry reservoir will be used in south utah and juab counties
