Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; next 15 years along the wasatch front most of which would be in utah and wasatch counties specifically the USBR will be looking at constructing reach 4 of the jordan aqueduct a 72 inch diameter concrete pipe from the mouth of provo canyon to the point of the mountain it will be initiating construction of the jordanelle Jor danelle dam and reservoir 6 miles north of heber also they will construct the diamond fork power system a power system through which 136000 acre feet of project water from strawberry reservoir will flow to spanish fork river this system was initially designed as a 133000 kilowatt power system with three power plants the bureaus plan is to enlarge it to a 1 1147 147 megawatt pumped storage power system this pumped storage power system will account for 15 1.5 15 billion of the total bonneville unit costs the bureau will be constructing facilities in utah county for delivery of some 27500 acre feet of water for municipal water use they will construct dikes on utah lake at provo bay and goshen bay enabling some 105000 acre feet of water to be salvaged each year for beneficial use it will construct irrigation pumping plants canals laterals literals late rals and drains at provo bay mosida monida and elberta areas west of utah lake in the spanish fork and santaquin San taquin areas the USB USBR R will construct a tunnel pipeline and canal system from diamond fork canyon in spanish fork canyon south past payson santaquin San taquin mona nephi and on to terminate in sevier bridge reservoir south of levan utah it will construct and develop additional canals laterals literals late rals and drains for irrigation development in mona and nephi areas all this means is that we will spend somewhat over a billion dollars in the next 15 years for construction of project facilities along the wasatch front this would make about 40 of the projects water supply or about 136000 acre feet per year available for use in utah county this compares with salt lake county with 70000 acre feet juab county with 46000 acre feet and duchesne county with 22800 acre feet of project water this 1 billion spent along the wasatch front will result in 8450 man years of employment an agricultural economy that would be increased by more than the present strawberry valley project which is the basis of much of the agriculture in the mapleton spanish fork santaquin San taquin lakeshore Lake shore payson benjamin west mountain goshen areas more than 600 million will be spent locally for building materials freight and labor the direct and indirect increased household income will be increased by some one half billion dollars SUMMARY OF BENEFITS TO UTAH COUNTY AND THE WASATCH FRONT 1 municipal and industrial water in the amount of 27500 acre feet per year will be available to firm up the cities existing supplies it will provide water from storage when the wells springs and streams dont yield enough CUWCD newsletter 2 irrigation water about 95000 acre feet of irrigation water will be made available in the county each year this amounts to an additional agricultural economy greater than the existing straw berry valley project which is the basis for much of the agriculture in south utah county the value of the crops grown in the strawberry valley project in 1980 were in excess of 16 million I 1 3 construction along the wasatch front during the next 1520 15 20 years will provide 8450 man years of employment more than 600 million will be spent locally for building materials freight and labor the direct and indirect household income will be increased by some one half billion dollars 7 A I 1 IMRIR aj 4j ide idy 15e ath alx acx atx rl I 1 c ao 40 4o T K t t oe A 77 continued
