Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; ntroduction introduction to the prop proposed osed ased plan af fill fill alft attl mv 7 the municipal and industrial system of the bonneville unit is located in salt lake utah summit and wasatch counties the system will provide 90000 acre feet of water annually for municipal and industrial use in northern utah county and salt lake county and about 2000 acre feet for municipal and industrial du strial use in wasatch county the project will also provide 15100 acre feet of water for supplemental irrigation use on 22740 acres of presently irrigated land in the heber francis area of wasatch and summit counties generate hydroelectric power provide flood control improve recreation opportunities a and nd some esthetic values and include measures to mitigate fishery and wildlife losses the system plan includes construction st of ofjordanelle jordanelle Jor danelle reservoir voir and power plant on the provo river completion of alpine and jordan aqueducts no now w under construction and stabilization of 12 of the 15 existing upper provo river reservoirs A 15 year construction period is anticipated the e existing strawberry reservoir voir will be the source of most of the water supply and this supply will be exchanged through utah lake to jordan elle reservoir by picking up the evaporation losses and other recoveries of an estimated 100000 acre feet annually project water for municipal and industrial use will be released from jordanelle Jor danelle reservoir voir into the provo ri river v er and flow 20 miles downstream where it will be diverted at the existing olmsted diversion dam the released flows would be conveyed to areas of use by project aqueducts the alpine aqueduct to serve communities in northern utah county and the jordan aqueduct to serve the metropolitan salt lake county area municipal and industrial water delivered to heber valley will be released from jordanelle Jor danelle reservoir and exchanged for water supplied from springs the irrigation water delivered to the heber and francis areas will be diverted from the river into existing canals both upstream and downstream from the reservoir and storage water will also be released downstream from the reservoir and storage water will also be released downstream to replace those having rights to the river natural flow A power plant will be constructed struc structe strucke ted d at the base of jordan elle dam to generate electrical energy from reservoir releases power not required for the bonneville unit will be available to existing power systems recreation facilities will be constructed struc ted at jordanelle ordanelle organelle J Jor or danelle reservoir and fishermens hermens fis access will be provided along 10 miles of the provo river immediately downstream these developments will provide added recreation and fishery opportunities to residents of the area other project measures will be included to develop the reservoir fishery to compensate for losses of fish and wildlife habitat g ax 4x
