Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; ipine 1pine opine aqueduct the alpine aqueduct part 0 of which is under construction is a major feature of the municipal and industrial system the 14 mile long structure is divided into reaches 1 2 and 3 reach 1 which was completed in 1979 consists of a short tunnel and a pipeline ranging in size from 90 to 72 in diameter and conveys water from the existing olmsted flowline blowline Flow line about 1 mile to the vicinity of the utah valley water purification plant at that location it is joined to the beginning of reach 4 of the jordan aqueduct which will convey water to salt lake county A 60 inch diameter connection has been made from reach 1 to the utah valley plants pumping station which enables an exchange to be made into the existing salt lake aqueduct reach 2 will be constructed southward from the utah valley water purification plant for approximately 2 miles and will deliver treated water to orem city this reach is soon to be designed with construction possible in 1985 reach 3 now under construction will extend from the utah valley water purification plant northward about 12 miles as far as lehi and will deliver treated water to various water systems throughout north utah county in need of supplemental supplies this reach is scheduled for completion by 1986 and ranges in size from 60 at the plant to 18 at its terminus N 423 427 I 1 ordan aqueduct the partially completed 38 mile long jordan aqueduct is also a major feature of the municipal and industrial system the aqueduct includes the completed reaches 1 2 and 3 and reach 4 now under construction st the aqueduct has been planned to convey and distribute 70000 acre feet of municipal and industrial water released from jordanelle Jor danelle reservoir into the provo river to places of use in salt lake county and salt lake city reach 1 completed in 1973 extends from the point of the mountain about 3 miles to the jordan water purification plant near bluffdale Bluff dale the 78 inch diameter pipe has been in operation since 1974 delivering provo river water to the plant for treatment during the high summer demand season each year reach 2 also completed in 1973 extends from the plant northward for about 12 miles to the vicinity of 5900 south in salt lake county this 78 diameter pipe is capable of delivering treated water to a large area of the salt lake valley through the salt lake county water conservancy district A 41 A JP reach 3 which was completed in 1983 is a continuation of reach 2 from 5900 south to salt lake city at 2100 south this reach is avi 5vi 5y2 miles long and consists of pipe ranging in size from 66 at the south end to 48 at the north end reach 4 now under construction extends from the end of alpine aqueduct reach 1 near the mouth of provo canyon for a distance of 17 miles through north utah county to connect with jordan reach 1 at the point of the mountain the pipe ranges from 72 to 66 in diameter and will convey untreated water to the jordan water purification plant
