Relation Central Utah Project; Western Waters Digital Library; c X UPPER stillwater DAM sigr sggr goshen 83jfikel TV provo bay ike at 4t UTAH LAKE CURRANT CREEK DAM e JF starvation DAM CENTRAL UTAH PROJECT BENEFITS OF THE bonneville UNIT by far the largest and most complex of the authorized units is bonneville it will make water available to sustain continued economic and industrial growth and nd hence population growth in utah by providing 1 about 80000 acre feet of water for municipal and industrial uses enough water to meet the needs of an increase of approximately 300000 people 2 about 220000 acre feet of irrigation water for 33000 acres of new farm land and 213000 acres of existing farm land now periodically short of water w ater the increase in agricultural production on these lands will be equivalent in magnitude to the present agricultural production in utah county 3 A total of about 133000 kilowatts of installed capacity in project hydroelectric powerplants power plants or enough energy to supply the power needs of a city of 100000 persons 4 extensive recreational developments on new and enlarged reclamation reservoirs 5 an increase of about 500 million in assessed property valuation as a measure of economic gr growth owth howth to be generated more than 70 million will be spent for construction payrolls alone durin during 9 the period of years required to build this unit recreation the bonneville unit will provide fishing swimming boating water skiing and family camping on the new and enlarged reservoirs IL recreational developments are planned at the starvation upper stillwater currant creek jordanelle Jor danelle mona and hayes reservoirs and at 15 small reservoirs on the provo river headwaters strawberry reservoir already renowned for its fishing will be expanded to three times its present size with more varied and vastly superior recreational opportunities the project will also make possible a greater utilization of the recreational potential of utah lake which is already enjoyed by many WATER FOR UTAHS FUTURE the central utah project is the key to development of utahs resources for the next 100 years it provides for the beneficial use of most of utahs remaining undeveloped share of colorado river water essentially the plan calls for intercepting south flowing streams on the slopes of the uintas cintas and channeling available water to croplands crop lands and cities in the uinta basin and central utah the authorized initial phase of the central utah project to be constructed by the bureau of reclamation includes four separate units the vernal unit now completed the bonneville unit on which construction has just begun and the upalco and jensen units for which definite plan reports are being prepared by the bureau ultimate phase units yet to be authorized are the uintah and the ute indian units in the uinta basin ar 4r b REPAYMENT OF CO COSTS STS construction costs of the bonneville unit are estimated at 324 million of this amount the central utah water conservancy district has contracted to repay 130633000 which represents all of the municipal and industrial water costs with interest and part of the irrigation costs the remainder of the reimbursable project costs will be repaid by power revenues from the bonneville unit powerplants power plants and from utahs share of power revenues accruing to the upper colorado river basin fund since benefits will accrue to the general public flood protection and recreation costs are nonreimbursable reimbursable non PROJECT administration the central utah water conservancy district established march 2 1964 by order of the fourth judicial court of utah is the legal agency to represent the people of the 12 county area of the project the counties are duchesne garfield juab millard plute salt lake san pete sevier summit uintah utah and wasatch the district will administer the sale and delivery of project water operate and maintain most of the project facilities and has contracted with the US government for repayment of reimbursable imbur sable costs of the central utah project GPO 1968 0 279232 27 92 inlets inlits s sigried function 1 m s th71nii teo 120 56s principal natural ie burce ource agena agenc the department of the interior bears a special obligation to assur thatour expendable resources are pon pom gon served that renewable resourceslar resources lar e managed to produce optimum yieldsi aridlthat all ail ali resources contributeltheir fullilmeasure fullil measure to thel thei progress apro fpro perity ferity and security of am erica now ilwthe ilythe future r19681
