Beaman did obtain a striking photograph of the rock which does suggest an island but this was probably unintentional. (Compare it with Freeman's photograph 1924, title page). Stone's complaint was that river travelers looking for Powell's "Monument" , or Beaman's "Sentinel Rock" as published by Dellenbaugh, assumed that it had ereded or fallen over when no island was...
