Description Journal: Anthropological Notes, University of Utah Department of Anthropology, "Historical Sites in Glen Canyon, Mouth of San Juan River to Lee's Ferry", Number 46, June 1960, page 68 probably did not check the proofs of the engravings in his 1875 report against his memory of things seen on the 1869 trip. Beaman did obtain a striking photograph of the rock which does suggest an island but this was probably unintentional. (Compare it with Freeman's photograph 1924, title page). Stone's complaint was that river travelers looking for Powell's "Monument" , or Beaman's "Sentinel Rock" as published by Dellenbaugh, assumed that it had ereded or fallen over when no island was...
